While not exactly Steam punk, i've always felt that The Decemberists have an image and manner that harkens back to a world before their time. Many of their publicity photos have a decidedly old-world/19th-century feel to them, their music and instrumentation seem somewhat out-of-place in a modern 'popular' music scene, and many of their lyrics employ wonderfully archaic language/terminology and themes - particularly on their albums Her Majesty and Picaresque. ~PS

While this band makes me want to invest in earplugs...I can see your point.
I do like that many bands out there are pulling Victorian dress, darker features, and all around harkeningness into their photos, videos, etc. Goes to show that soem history should repeat itself.

While this band makes me want to invest in earplugs...I can see your point. Awww.... ....the peopleses hates my favorite band Oh well. Yeah, there is something appealing about the image of such a time... ...though a lot of it probably has to do with the fact that none of us have truly experienced it </cynical> ~PS

Same can go for those that do the whol Renaissance Faire thing...yay for the plague lol absolutely. So i guess such subcultures are really a celebration of the finer points of such bygone societies?... ...or is it merely an adaptation of the "good ol' days" sentiment? ~PS
